Chipotle Morita Chilli Flakes

The Morita Chipotle Chilli is the dried, smoked Jalapeno pepper from a species of Capsicum Annuum. These are some of the most sought after and delicious chillies that lots of people love to cook with. They add a sweet and smoky flavour to dishes, making them taste like they have been on a barbeque. As they are Jalapeno peppers, the chipotles retain the same sort of heat level, anything up to 10,000 SHU. Chipotle Chilli Flakes are destemmed and chopped, so they include the seeds in the mix. You can use them in place of Crushed Chillies to get a different flavour and heat level.

These are made with genuine Morita Chipotle Chillies, smoked over pecan shells as they should be for an authentic taste. “Morita” means the chillies are fully ripe and red before harvesting and going through the smoking process. There are other types such as Meco which is smoked for longer, and consumed in Mexico to the extent that there isn’t much left for export! We also have whole Chipotle Morita Chillies and Chipotle Chilli Powder, should you want a different product. If you want something with flavour and virtually no heat, we also have Aleppo Pepper Flakes, but you don’t really find them in Mexican dishes.

The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
