A couple of these you generally won’t find in your local supermarket and would normally need to go to Mexican food shop. Give your Mexican dishes some extra authenticity with these herbs!
Epazote –Â A tough, fibrous plant that gives a flavour reminiscent of oregano, mint and anise. Great in bean dishes as it combats the after effects of eating a bean rich meal!
Mexican Oregano – One of the most lightweight herbs we know, but quite the opposite in flavour. This gives an intense oregano flavour that shines through any amount of spice. If you love oregano, give this a try and enjoy the extra flavour you’ll get.
Coriander Leaf – A great deal of Mexican cookery uses Coriander, whether that be fresh or in a dry form. Either way, this staple of the region flavours dishes with an amazing taste.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
