Valentina Red is possibly the most well known salsa picante in Mexico! You don’t get that level of recognition without some serious flavour to back it up. The star of the show here is the Puya pepper, which give the sauce its distinctive taste. These little flavour bombs are very fruity with notes of cherry and liquorice and, using these chillies, the sauce doesn’t need much more to be a stand out product! Heat level from the peppers is 5,000 to 8,000, but in the sauce, they sit at a lower heat level (around 900 scovilles). This is all about the flavour rather than the heat.

Valentina Red is often used with Mexican snacks (botanas), adding loads of flavour and gentle heat. Mexicans will often add a little lime juice and Tajin with the sauce to really ramp up the taste! Try it with crisps, popcorn or even pork scratchings for something a bit different. It will pair well with eggs and chicken dishes as well as crudités and other similar foods. If you’re making a big pile of cheesy nachos, this sauce will really make them sing! Beyond Mexican food, this is a great all round sauce that you can use for pretty much anything. Great with potato wedges, fries, pizza chicken pieces and just pretty much just about anything you want! The flavours here also make the sauce great as an ingredient when making other foods. Enhance soups and sauces, or add a dash of flavour and spice to a cocktail!

Other great sauces we have include Tapatio, La Costena Green Salsa, La Llorona and La Adelita, to name but a few!
