If you have clicked on a link that has brought you here, it means you have at the very least a passing interest in herbs and spices. That’s great! We firmly believe that these ingredients are what gives cuisines their interest, character and appeal. Can you imagine having to eat all of your meals using no herbs and spices? Bland, bland, bland! Whether you’re a ‘make-it-up-as-you-go’ kind of cook or a real whizz in the kitchen, no doubt you’ll be reaching for the spice cupboard most times you cook.

Hopefully, if you’re interested in spices, you’re also interested in quality. Of course, you can pick up a jar of supermarket own brand coriander or something for 90p and companies like The Spice Cupboard cannot compete with that. But we don’t want to! To process the amount of spice that a large chain would need, you’re probably going to get a lower quality product overall. We’re not here to say it’s awful, it’s certainly usable – we did for years before we discovered how good herbs and spices could be. Now we can’t go back! High quality goods are more potent in flavour and it really comes through in the final dish; something we hear time and again from people that use our products.

Sourcing Spices

We always try to source from people that are as passionate as we are about spices, as they are always on the lookout for the best. Everything we have for sale is high grade, from where you might expect. Our Mexican Chilli powders such as Guajillo and Ancho come from Mexico, not from chillies grown hydroponically under glass. Our Cayenne Pepper comes from India, as do a great many of our spices. This doesn’t make them cheap like a supermarket, but if you want great quality we believe we offer a good price.

Here at The Spice Cupboard, we try not to have great deals of stock at any one time. We much prefer to wait until we’re getting low and order in fresh for maximum shelf life and freshness. Of course, we don’t get it right all the time and occasionally sell out before we can restock, or things get a little close to best before dates. These you can usually find in our clearance section – a great place to pick up a bargain!
