A Western favourite!

Chinese Style Curry Sauce is a favourite of so many people and with good reason! This vibrant, aromatic concoction with its rich savoury flavours is great either as a beef or chicken curry, or as a dip for chicken/ pork/ prawn balls. You can also just grab some chips and curry sauce and still have a great tasting snack! Having the option of making up a homemade Chinese curry sauce in minutes is a great thing, we think, as you can now try it with any other foods you can think of!
From what we can gather, Chinese curry is a a fusion of Chinese and Indian cuisines, bought about in part by the British taking over Hong Kong, India and Singapore. The populations were encouraged to move about and trade, taking food cooking techniques with them, adapting to whatever ingredients that were available. Today, it seems Chinese curry as we know it exists mostly in the West to satisfy our palates. They do have curried dishes in China, but they tend to be quite different to what we have in takeaways here.

What to use Homemade Chinese Curry Sauce with
Chinese Takeaway Curry Sauce is a highly versatile product and, if you love this sauce, you can use it with so many foods! Of course, using it as a base for a chicken or beef curry is ideal, or indeed vegetables or tofu. Mix some sauce into rice or noodles for a quick, tasty meal, adding your protein of choice to make it go further. You can also use it as a dip for pretty much whatever you want. Spring rolls, samosas, pizza crusts, breadsticks and more.
As mentioned above, chips with curry sauce is just divine! If you’re feeling adventurous, you could replace the tomato sauce on a pizza and make a curry pizza. We’ve tried it and it was pretty good (we used a huge naan bread as the base!). Use the sauce as a base for a curry soup, pour some over a jacket potato, add it to wraps and so much more. We love a Chinese curry sauce and will regularly make some up to scratch the itch! Sometimes we like to add some cayenne to the mix to pep it up a bit, if we’re feeling we need more heat. We will shortly be making a spicier Chinese style curry sauce available on our website, so check back regularly if that sounds good!

Ingredients
Wheat Flour (Contains Calcium, Iron, Niacin, Thiamine), Palm Oil, Curry Powder (Ground Coriander, Ground Turmeric, Ground Mustard, Chana Dal, Ground Cumin, Chilli Powder, Ground Fenugreek, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Salt), Sugar, Salt, Flavour Enhancer E621, Tomato Powder, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Turmeric, Chilli Powder. As you can see, there is quite a list of ingredients in the mix – much more convenient than making your own! Please note that it does have the allergens Mustard and Wheat, if you have intolerances to them.
Combine 25g of mix per 100ml of cold water and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 2 minutes, stirring constantly until ready to serve. We would recommend adding slightly less water to make a thicker sauce, then adjusting the final sauce with a little boiling water to thin (if necessary).
Of course, every Chinese Curry Sauce recipe varies from restaurant to restaurant, so it may not be exactly the same as your local place. That said, it is a very close approximation to our favourite takeaway here in Dartford. There is also nothing to stop you making adjustments either. Not sweet enough? Add a little sugar or honey. Not spicy enough? Add some chilli powder or cayenne. Make it as thick or thin as you want by adjusting the water content to suit. You can always thicken it using a little flour to save using more and more mix.
