Ground Fenugreek comes from the seeds of the Trigonella Foenum Graecum plant, growing extensively in India. As you might guess, it is a staple spice in Indian cooking with its sweet, nutty flavour. Some say it is a little like maple syrup in flavour, but either way, it brings a sweet depth to all kinds of foods. It is perfect for a wide variety of curry dishes and many other foods from across the world. Ground Fenugreek is great for making custom spice blends and is in our Vindaloo, Balti, Mild Curry and Tandoori Blends. You’ll also find it making up part of our Asafoetida.
Fenugreek has many other uses across the world, many of which are not culinary. Some use it as an ingredient in cosmetics and soaps, or even as a flavouring for tobacco. In North Africa, Asia, and southern Europe, fenugreek was traditionally used for diabetes and to increase milk supply in women who were breastfeeding.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
