Ground Cloves are the dried buds of Syzygium Aromaticum L, ground into a powder. While whole cloves are great in their own way, sometimes having them in powder form can make life easier. The aromatic spice has a warming, slightly sweet flavour that pairs very well with Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Allspice.
Ground Cloves are great for flavouring a wide variety of foods, including poultry, gammon, game meat and pork as well all kinds of vegetable dishes. It adds a pleasing warmth to fruit desserts too, such as apple pie (or crumble), stewed fruits and even cakes and biscuits. We love adding a pinch with nutmeg and cinnamon into fresh coffee for a warming, wintery flavour. Not only does it make you feel warmer, but festive too in December!
