Another kitchen essential, Chilli Powder is an easy way to add heat and flavour to a dish. Many countries from around the world use it to bring a chilli kick to their nations cuisine. It is perfect for curries, chilli con carne, cheese dishes, potatoes, vegetable or for making custom spice blends. Your imagination is the only limit for what you can use it for! You can even add a pinch or two to hot chocolate, chocolate cake or other puddings.

Chilli Powder comes from the dry pods of the Capsicum Frutescens plant which is milled into a powder. These come from a great many places in the world, but they all have the same pungent, spicy flavour. So many spice blends use chilli powder including Taco Seasoning, Barbeque Spice Blend, Fajita Spice Blend, Vindaloo Curry Powder, Madras Curry Powder (Medium and Hot) and so much more!

The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible. If you’re looking for a milder chilli powder, Kashmiri Mirch would be a good option at between 1000 and 2000 SHU.
