Kashmiri Mirch Chilli Powder is the dried and ground pods of a Capsicum Annuum plant, the most domesticated of the 5 Capsicum varieties. One of the best things about these chillies is that they have bags of fruity, chilli flavour with hardly any heat. They register between 1000 and 2000 Scoville units, putting them about the level of Poblano chillies, and not as hot as Jalapeños. This makes Kashmiri Chilli Powder perfect for adding flavour to dishes without the heat that comes with other chilli powders. For this reason alone it is a very popular product, but it also has other uses.
When cooking with Kashmiri Chilli Powder, it will help sauces turn a deep red colour; great for a Jalfrezi or a Tikka Masala curry. Of course, you can add it to whatever you want to get the flavours and slight heat you get from it. Sprinkle over your favourite roast foods or even some popcorn. It even works on cheese on toast or in tomato soup!
