Urfa
Chilli Flakes come from the dried pods of a species of Capsicum Annuum, and they have come from a specific region of Turkey (where they’re known as Isot Pepper). They have a low to medium heat of around 7500 on the Scoville heat scale that builds as the meal goes on. Urfa Biber Chilli Flakes have a wonderful fruity, raisin like flavour with a touch of natural smokiness. They’re a great ingredient when cooking low and slow dishes, as well as enhancing sauces, soups and casseroles. Use to add flavour to meat dishes (kebabs are ideal), chicken, vegetables and fish, or sprinkle over pulses and grains such as rice. Some cultures use these chilli flakes in place of Black Pepper, seasoning their food that way.
Urfa Biber Chilli Flakes are in a handy to use form, and much easier to use than whole peppers, dry or otherwise. No need to go through all the deseeding and chopping now, simple open the pack and use as much as you need. Other chilli flake products we have include Chipotle, De Arbol and Aleppo Pepper Flakes, which may be of interest.
The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
