Red Jalapeno Chilli Powder comes from the dried, ground pods of a species of capsicum annuum. Jalapeno is easily one of the most famous chillies in the world, and with good reason. The heat level isn’t too hot, coming in at around 5000 on the scoville heat scale, and the flavour is earthy and sweet. Red Jalapeno peppers are hotter and sweeter than their green counterparts and that’s where this handy spice comes in. Preparing chillies isn’t too much trouble if you have a little time, but if you’re in a rush or are sensitive to chilli oils, this could be just what you need.

Red Jalapeno Chilli Powder is perfect for adding flavour and a little heat to just about any dish you want to. It does, of course, pair very well with Mexican dishes like tacos, quesadillas and enchiladas, but you can also add it to soups, stews, sauces and much more. Dust some over fresh wedges, pizza or your favourite snack for a bit of a kick! Another great use for it is swapping it in for another chilli powder that is too hot. If the recipe calls for Cayenne Pepper, but that’s too hot, use Jalapeno Chilli Powder instead (but be aware the flavour will be a little different). We have a good range of other chilli powders available if you’re looking for something else. These include Ancho, Mulato, Pasilla, Guajillo,  Cayenne S4, Cayenne S17, De Arbol, Chipotle and Vietnamese Tear Jerker, and we’ll probably add more as we discover them!

The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
