Tomato Powder is a very useful ingredient to have in the kitchen and it has so many uses you may not have even thought of! To keep up with demand, tomatoes are often grown in hydroponic systems. This is great for growing high yields in shorter spaces of time, but quite often the flavours can be lacking. If you’re using such tomatoes in the kitchen (whether you know it or not) you may not be getting the strength of flavour you want. That’s where Tomato Powder comes in! It comes from Spanish tomatoes, growing in soil under the sun, meaning the flavours are stronger and more natural. Adding some to your tomato base dishes will bolster the flavours and make the meal more satisfying.
That’s not all Tomato Powder is good for, though. You can use it to add flavour to anything, without increasing the liquid content like fresh tomatoes would. Use it in bread recipes (tomato and olive bread, anyone?), dips and sauces, marinades and rubs or whatever else you can think of. It works wonders in pizza and pasta recipes, adding a more intense flavour of tomato – delicious! Other vegetable powders we have include Beetroot, Broccoli, Carrot and Onion Powder.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
