Beetroot Powder is made from the dehydrated and powdered root tuber of the Beta vulgaris plant. It has a sweet, earthy flavour and is perfect for using in place of fresh beetroot in some recipes. A perfect store room ingredient if you don’t want the hassle of chopping up a whole root, staining everything pink in the process! One teaspoon is equivalent to one fresh beetroot, but adjust to taste as you go.
Beetroot Powder is great in many dishes, quite often in use as a natural food dye. Bakers can use it with breads and pizza bases to add colour and flavour. Mix with pasta dough to add a striking colour and some nutritional value, or add to a drink to change it’s colour. The range of stews, soups and casseroles you can use Beetroot Powder in is huge, so you can always experiment with it. Plus, it’s full of health boosting vitamins and minerals, so it’s win win! Other vegetable products we have include Tomato Powder, Mixed Peppers, Onion Powder, Red Onion Powder and Onion Granules.
Please note that it is highly hydroscopic, meaning it will readily absorb moisture from the air. If possible, keep the pack sealed as much as possible and only open it when you need it. You may find that it forms clumps in the pack, so just give the jar a shake or the pack a squeeze to separate it before use. As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
