Oregano consists of the dried, rubbed leaves of the Origanum Vulgare Plant. It is a wonderfully aromatic herb with links to Mediterranean cooking, but is also a big part of Mexican and Argentine foods. It is perfect with pizzas and pasta dishes, but is also great for flavouring poultry, cheeses, red meat and fish. Pairing it with tomatoes makes a great combination! Parts of southern Italy combine Oregano with spicy foods, but it is less prevalent in the north of the country. There, people can favour Marjoram over Oregano. Both will give you a big flavour hit, so you can’t lose! Oregano also pairs well with Basil, Cumin, Garlic, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme.
