Basil

Basil is a very handy kitchen herb that is a great replacement for fresh basil. Buying fresh is great, but once the plant is gone, you’ll need to go out and buy more (or grow your own!). If you need some basil quickly, this is the perfect product (which is stronger in flavour and lasts longer). Basil has a light, peppery flavour with a touch of mint, perfect for flavouring a wide variety of foods. It goes wonderfully well in pesto and any tomato base food. Use it in stuffings, dressings, soups, stews or on pizza and pasta. Basil goes very well with Parsley, Oregano, Rosemary, Chives and Dill.

Basil comes from rubbing and drying the leaves and blooms of the Ocimum Basilicum plant. It is great in its own but works very well with other herbs and spices. The Ancient Egyptians and Greeks believed basil would open the gates of heaven, but we can only attest to its great taste!

As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
