Thyme is a the dry aerial parts of the Thymus Vulgaris plant and is one of the more common herbs in kitchens today. It has a wonderful, warming scent and an earthy, slightly sweet minty flavour. It is one of the few herbs that doesn’t lose its flavour when you cook it for long periods. This makes it perfect for soups, casseroles, stews and roast meats. You can also add it to the water when boiling or steaming vegetables. Thyme is great for making up your own herb blends too, as it goes very well with other herbs such as Basil, Chives, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage and Tarragon.
For millennia, cultures have used fragrant Thyme in various ways. Egyptians used it for embalming, Greeks used in their baths, Romans scented rooms with it and Europeans in the middle ages placed it under pillow to ward off nightmares. We make no claims on Thyme other than it tastes great!
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
