Bombay Potato Spice Blend is a great mix for making this famous vegetarian, Indian potato dish. This history of the dish seems to originate from an Anglo-Indian place, rather than traditional Indian cuisine. Like many such dishes, it’s hard to pin down exact origins, but wherever its roots are, you can’t argue that it’s very popular! Many recipes use mustard as part of the blend, but we have let it out of our blend, to keep it allergen free. You could add some ground mustard to the blend if you wish! PLEASE NOTE – This blend has no salt in it, so you can add as little or as much as you want. We recommend adding a little to really bring out and enhance the flavours of the spices.
Bombay Potato Spice Blend makes it easy to create the dish at home without the need to grind or mix your own spices. The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
