Cinnamon Sticks are the inner bark of the Cinnamomum Verum tree, which is “True” Cinnamon. When the bark of the tree is removed, the inner bark is exposed, which slowly dries over several hours, curling into sticks as it does. This is then cut to length and sold to markets across the world. Please note that weights for this product are approximate. We’ll always try to get it as close as we can to what the pack states, but it may be a few fractions of a gram under, or a little over.
Cinnamon Sticks are milder in flavour than Indonesian Sticks (Cassia) and are highly suitable for desserts and lighter tasting dishes. Add a few sticks to stews, broths and casseroles to impart a wonderful, aromatic note, and a complex taste. You could also add some to rice and other grain dishes and allow the fragrances to permeate. Why not add a Cinnamon Stick to your coffee, tea or hot chocolate to add a warming flavour? Then, of course, there is Christmas! Mulled wine recipes often call for Cinnamon Sticks and many room fragrances use them along with other fragrant spices such as Star Anise. We also have True Ground Cinnamon, if that’s of more use!
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
