Celery Salt is the go to salt for many people due to the great flavours it brings to food. Salt, unsurprisingly, brings a salty flavour while the celery brings a slightly green, peppery bite. You can switch out normal salt for Celery Salt to add interest to an enormous number of dishes. It’s also great for using as a table seasoning for chips, wedges or anything else you’d use salt for.
Celery Salt is also great for making custom spice blends of your own! It is also one of the ingredients of a Bloody Mary and Caesar cocktails, and a seasoning for Chicago Style Hotdog and the New York System Wiener. Celery naturally contains sodium nitrate, which is a food preservative. Some food producers use Celery Salt to help with shelf life, rather than add extra sodium nitrate. Other salt blends include Onion Salt, Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, and Garlic Salt.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
