Ghost Pepper Chilli Powder is one seriously hot chilli powder that should not be taken lightly! This one time “hottest chilli in the world” is a hybrid of a Capsicum chinense and a Capsicum frutescens chilli. For an idea how hot it is, a jalapeno pepper measures about 5,000 on the Scoville heat scale, cayenne usually around 20,000 and a fiery habanero 350,000. The Ghost Pepper measures over 1,000,000 on the heat scale and will give your foods a enormous amount of heat from even a small amount. This is why we don’t supply it in the usual 100g bags – nobody needs that much!
Our Ghost Pepper Chilli Powder is fairly fine powder, which is why we only use an empty jar for display at shows. Even breathing in a tiny amount can irritate the lungs and airways, so take extra care when using. Also known as Naga Bhut Jolokia, the Ghost chilli has a longer burn time than many other varieties of chilli, often 10 minutes and over. If you love your food with a serious smack of heat, this may be the chilli powder you want. If this sounds a little too hot, we also have Habanero Chilli powder, Scotch Bonnet Chilli Powder, Birdseye Chilli Powder, Hot Cayenne and much more.
The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others may find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add more, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
