Hickory Smoke Powder is a fantastic ingredient that will add a rich smoky flavour to whatever you use it with. It is ideal for making your own custom spice blends or changing up an existing one. There are also many ways you can use it while cooking too. Add a little to beef mince when making burgers, lightly dust meats and vegetables before cooking to get a deep, smoky flavour or incorporate into marinades and rubs. Hickory Smoke Powder dissolves easily in liquids, so is perfect for making soups and sauces too.

To capture the flavours of smoke and get it into a usable form, it needs to go through a few processes. Hickory wood is burnt at a steady, high temperature which gives off the flavoursome smoke. This is captured, condensed and filtered, mixed with water and then dried to form a concentrated smoke powder. This powder blends with maltodextrin, which lowers the concentration and acts as a carrier, making it much easier to use. Hickory Smoke Powder is pretty potent and al little goes a long way! You won’t need very much to add a deep and smoky flavour to your foods.

As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
