Hot Oak Smoked Paprika is a wonderful alternative to regular paprika, if you want something a little different. The fruits from a species of Capsicum Annuum are dried and smoked over burning oak wood to give a distinct flavour. It is perfect for sauces, dressings, marinades and dips as well as all kinds of stews, casseroles and soups. Use it when roasting meat, fish, chicken and potatoes or sprinkle over foods after cooking (chips, wedges and the like are good).
Hot Oak Smoked Paprika has a heat rating of 20,000 SHU, which is about the same as Cayenne Pepper. If you are after something not as strong, we also have Smoked Paprika, “Normal” Paprika and Spanish Sweet Paprika. Or there is Hot Paprika if you want the heat, without the smoke!
The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
