Togarashi Spice Blend gives your foods a Japanese flavouring, with a kick of spice! Other names for it are Japanese 7 Spice or Shichimi, but whatever you call it, nobody can deny the unique taste it imparts to dishes. It consists of mix of Chilli Powder, Black Sesame Seeds, White Sesame Seeds, Orange Peel, Ginger Root, Szechuan Pepper and Seaweed. With chilli powder and Szechuan Pepper, you know this is going to be a spicy one! If you like it hot, you can use it to flavour all kinds of foods, particularly those from Japan and the Far East.
Examples of where you can use Togarashi Spice Blend are numerous! Countless Asian soups, rice and noodle dishes are a great place to start. Then there is tofu and rice crackers, yakitori, tempura and all kinds of vegetable dishes you can use it with. Stir it into sauces and dips to create new flavours, or simply use it at the table like you would salt and pepper. We also have Thai 7 Spice and Chinese 5 Spice if you’re looking for other Far Eastern flavours!
The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
