Deggi Mirch

Deggi Mirch is a simple blend of Kashmiri Mirch Chilli Powder and Red Bell Pepper Powder. You can find it in many Indian recipes, but not necessarily to add heat. There is not much spice to the blend, but it does impart a great colour and flavour to dishes. So not only does it improve the visual appeal and flavour of food, it is great for those that want these things without the burst of heat from spicy chillies.

Deggi Mirch is great for use in a wide variety of Indian foods such as soups, stews, curries and biryanis. You can use it to bring some extra flavour and colour to tandoori chicken too. In Northern India you’ll find it in dhal and breads such as naan and paratha. In the South they use it in rice dishes, kebabs, sambars and more. There’s no reason you can’t experiment with it in your own kitchen though, Indian food or not. If you want to add flavour and colour to your foods, this is a great option! As with everything, add a little at a time (if possible) to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
