Hibiscus Flowers are the dry flowers of the Hibiscus sabdariffa plant, otherwise going by the name roselle. These flowers are a part of cuisines all over the world, including Mexico, Cambodia and the Middle East. The wonderful fragrant flavour they impart and the vibrant colour they bring really makes them a fantastic, if slightly esoteric ingredient to have in the kitchen.
Hibiscus Flowers are often in use by Mexican sweet makers, and elsewhere in cold drinks and hot teas. The flavour is reminiscent of a tart cranberry, so will compliment many dishes. Steep them in hot water and strain them out to get a deep red tea. You can make hibiscus syrup, jam, jellies and much more with this versatile flower. A great ingredient to experiment with!
Other great products we have include Saffron La Mancha, Peppermint, Red Sage, Winter Thyme, Lemon Verbena and much more.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
