Uyuni Desert Salt is another unique salt that comes from the Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat. This region of Bolivia is fascination in that the flats cover an area of 10,582 square kilometres, yet the difference in height across the entire area is less than one metre. As a result, when rain falls, it forms an incredibly still and level surface, giving rise to the largest mirror on Earth at 129km/ 80 miles across! The salt bed itself is a few metres thick and comes from prehistoric lakes that existed 40,000 years ago.

Uyuni Desert Salt is great for seasoning food in the kitchen or on the dining table. It gives a mild salt taste which is less harsh than some other kinds of salt. This is perfect if you want a lighter flavour from your salt. This is a fairly coarse grind and is ideal for use with a pestle and mortar of a grinder. Alternatives include Kalahari Desert Salt, Blue Salt,  Cubic Halit Salt or Coarse Sea Salt.

Always be sure to add a little at a time when adjusting to taste. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible! Always be sure to read the labels before consumption. Suitable for vegetarian, vegan and kosher recipes.
