Vietnamese Tear Jerker Chilli Powder comes from the dried, ground pods of a species of Capsicum Frutescens. Tear Jerker is the name of the chilli itself, but if you use too much, that very well may be what you get! These inch or two long chillies vary in heat from 5000 up to 30,000 and above on the Scoville Heat scale and are popular across much of Asia. You probably won’t need much to add a burst of heat to your foods and the heat delays it hit, building for a while after eating. If you’re tasting while cooking, be sure to wait a minute or so before adding more chilli! Vietnamese Tear Jerker Chilli Powder brings the wonderful flavour of chilli fruitiness with a hint of citrus, ideal for many dishes.
Use it in Asian dishes for more authenticity, but if you like the flavours there’s no limit to what you can use it in. Chilli con Carne, spicing up a pasta sauce, soups, dressings and much more. Of course, you can include it in custom spice blends or swap our regular chilli powder with it. The pods of the chilli plant are small, at about 1g each (dry), so a teaspoon is equivalent to around 10 chillies. Vietnamese Tear Jerker Chilli Powder is not often available in many places in the UK, so we’re really happy to be able to offer it at this time. If for whatever reason it becomes unavailable, we’ll continue to strive to find a way to add it back to our stock. Other chilli powders we have include Cayenne S4, Hot Cayenne S17, Chilli Powder, Chipotle, De Arbol, Mulato, Guajillo and many more.
Chilli Heat
The heat from chillies is a subjective thing we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chillies, chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find the heat level you like. If you are tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
