Lebanese 7 Spice is an amazingly aromatic blend of some of the most potent spices around. Often used interchangeably with Baharat, it consists of Black Pepper, Black Cumin Seeds, Sweet Paprika, Coriander, Cloves, Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Cardamom. This is a popular blend in the Middle East where they use it to flavour a wide variety of foods as an every day seasoning. You can use Lebanese 7 Spice in place of salt and pepper before pan frying steak or lamb, or anything else you fancy. It is also a great blend for use in slow cooking foods such as stews and casseroles where it will impart and heady, aromatic flavour with many layers of complexity.
Lebanese 7 Spice is also a good option for adding flavour to rice, couscous and other grain dishes. You can use it as a rub or mix with some water, lemon juice or oil to make a marinade. PLEASE NOTE – There is no salt in this blend so you can add as little or as much as you’d like. We find adding some brings out the flavours of the spices.
As with all herbs and spices, add a little at a time to get the flavour you want. You can always add more, but taking it out again can be impossible!
