Berbere Seasoning – No Salt

Berbere Seasoning is a spice blend originates from Ethiopia and has a range of 13 spices in the mix. It consists of Coriander, Cumin, Cardamom, Fenugreek, Cloves, Smoked Paprika, Sweet Paprika, Black Pepper, Birdseye Chilli Powder, Ginger, Cinnamon, Turmeric and Allspice. As you can see, there are some strong, aromatic spices there, which will add a delicious flavour to your foods.

Berbere Seasoning (prounced ber-baray) is great for use in bean, lentil and other pulse dishes. That’s not to say you cannot use it with meats, fish and vegetables too – of course you can! Why not make up some homemade burgers using some of the seasoning for a real flavour sensation, or indeed whatever you want to make with it. PLEASE NOTE – This blend has no salt in it, so you can add as little or as much as you want. We recommend adding a little to really bring out and enhance the flavours of the spices.

The heat from chillies is a subjective thing, we find; what some may find too hot, others might find tame. Therefore, you should go easy on chilli powders and blends with chilli powders in them to find a heat level you like. If you’re tasting as you go, you can always add a little more if you need to, but taking heat out is difficult if not impossible.
